"It's simple, really..." I found myself saying. "Your dog has a small sink. She overflows easily and doesn't drain well..." It made sense to me at the time, but it sounds like awful nonsense without a justification. The sink metaphor is one I use frequently though with owner to explain why their dog isn't coping
